Despite our big reputation, George Fox students benefit from
the advantage only a smaller school can provide. This includes a
13-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio – a ratio that’s nearly half
that of larger institutions. Our average class size is 20
students, and most classes cap at 50 – a stark contrast to the
200-person lecture halls at most state schools.
Our size also allows greater access to experiential-learning
opportunities, such as independent research guided by faculty
mentors through the Richter Scholars Program. As one of only 11
universities nationwide accepted in the program, George Fox has
supported such research as cell growth and cycle control in
breast cancer, efficient GPS push models for mobile computers,
and the effect of stereotype threat on perceiving emotions.

Wouldn’t you love it if each of your professors knew your
name and your story?
Our 13-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio translates into the
individualized attention and intellectual interaction that
meaningful scholarship requires. Close academic relationships
between faculty and students often result in customized
internships and independent study courses, both of which are
enhanced by the resources of the greater Portland area, where a
multitude of cultural and employment opportunities await.
