Scholar Demographics

In the last nine years, Act Six has selected and trained 318 scholars in 37 cadres from five regions across the Northwest to attend eight partner colleges.  These Act Six scholars have the following characteristics:

  • 30% African American, 25% Hispanic, 13% Asian/Pacific Islander, 11% Caucasian, 2% American Indian, 19% mixed heritage
  • represent 6 continents of the world and speak 32 native languages
  • 58% female
  • 72% first generation college students
  • 71% from low-income families
  • 86% first generation or low-income

Program Outcomes

The effectiveness and impact of the Act Six initiative is indicated by the following:

  • 92% of the scholars who started college have graduated or are still enrolled
  • 83% of the scholars in the first six cadres have graduated
  • 68% of first graduates have returned to work or serve in their home communities
  • 22% of first graduates are pursuing or have earned graduate degrees
  • scholars have been awarded more than $13 million in scholarships and grants
  • scholars are assuming significant leadership roles on campus, including numerous club presidents and three student government president or vice-presidents
  • scholars are engaged in numerous community internships and service opportunities
  • 100% of alumni make an annual financial gift back to Act Six
